We all have a choice between ODF and the old, proprietary Microsoft formats. We have a choice between ODF and the eventual result of the ECMA process that will do nothing but guarantee compatibility with Microsoft's own products. We have a choice to actively participate in the continued future development of the ODF work in OASIS. We have a choice by thusly participating to benefit the industry as a whole instead of our own installed marketshare. We have a choice to understand that word processors have been around for over twenty years and to understand that people have a pretty good idea of how to build the standards so they will maximize interoperability with products from more than one vendor. We have a choice to compete on the relative value of products rather than by trying to lock people into a data format that one vendor dictates. We have a choice to work with the community instead of against it.
