Inline editing with AJAX

Have you ever had to explain the basics of (X)HTML and/or markup to a co-worker? Usually this is quite a difficult task for a web programmer who almost speaks in tags. It gets worse when that co-worker is assigned to your team to add content to or edit content of the website.

In my case, that co-worker has to use Dreamweaver to get the job done. This usually involves a lot of testing and uploading a document before it is actually ready. They dread the though of having to open up the editor, finding the page in the website file hierarchy, editing it, testing it, and finally declaring the document “edited.

Here, in the case of a simple edit of a page, AJAX may come in handy. The co-worker can just click on the item he or she wishes to change, and results are immediately viewable. No more opening up the editor, finding the page in the website file hierarchy. No more dreadful testing with the inevitable trial-error.
