Dynamic Loading of Vector Geodata for SVG Mapping Applications Using Postgis, PHP and getURL()/XMLHttpRequest()

This tutorial explains how to dynamically load vector data into a svg mapping application, each time the user zooms or pans. This tutorial uses PostgreSQL as a SQL compatible database, Postgis as a spatial extension to the database and PHP for the serverside logic and communication. All components are free to use, customizable and run on virtually any server platform. This is what makes the system particularly useful for low budget projects and training environments. Of course it is possible to use the same principle as described in this tutorial and exchange one or more components of the system. One could for example use a different serverside language or spatial database.
